Ruru Madrid on showcasing Filipino martial arts in ‘Lolong’: Mahalin muna natin ‘yung sariling atin

Learning Filipino martial arts was one of the preparations Ruru Madrid did for “Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan.”

In his GMA Integrated News interview with Nelson Canlas, the Primetime Action Hero said that his training began as soon as “Black Rider” finished.

“May mga pagkakataon na dumadayo pa ako ng San Pedro, Laguna para aralin. Kailangan mong makuha ‘yung flow eh. Kailangan walang kanto. Kailangan para kang nagsasayaw lang,” Ruru said.

“Para sa ‘kin, mahalin muna natin ‘yung sariling atin. Itong Filipino martial arts, sa’tin ‘to eh at gusto ko pong maipagmalaki ‘to,” he continued.

The first season of “Lolong” premiered in 2022 and followed the title character, who had an unlikely friendship with a giant crocodile named Dakila. The adventure series also tackled themes of family, friendship, and the environment.

During its run, “Lolong” became the most-watched TV show in the Philippines.

"Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan" is set to premiere on GMA Prime on January 20.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
