Boy Abunda admits getting bothered by comments asking him for chismis
Boy Abunda said that he used to be uncomfortable with getting associated with gossip or chismis.
The King of Talk admitted this during the latest episode of "Your Honor" hosted by Buboy Villar and Tuesday Vargas.
"There was a time in my career that I was bothered by, 'Boy, anong chismis?' It was a dubious reputation that what I was doing was delivering chismis," he said. "Medyo naapektuhan ako."
"Because ang pagkaunawa natin ng chismis ay hindi totoo, iniimbento at may kalakip na paninira. Ang chismis ay ginagawa to demean, to derogate, sa kapwa. So 'yun yong premise nung salitang chismis na parang wala lang, walang pinanggagalingan. Sinasabi lang kasi katuwaan," Tito Boy added.
Citing his paper "Dichotomy of Chismis," which he submitted for his Master of Arts in Communication degree, Tito Boy said there are different kinds of chismis.
"May tsismis na nakakatuwa, may tsismis na entertaining lamang, biro. It's almost a joke, meron namang tsismis na nagiging source of sabi nga ni Ardee information. Nakakakuha ka ng impormasyon. Meron namang mga tsismis na talagang katulad ng sinabi ko kanina ay paninira," he said.
When asked whether he "subscribes" to chismis or not, the veteran talk show host said "I'd rather not."
"Dahil importante ang katotohan. Doon pa lang sa debate ng truth, masalimuot na," he said.
"Truth is subjective. Depende kung sino ka. Depende kung saan 'yung bias mo, kung saan ka nanggaling. Ano ang iyong paniniwala. Ano ang iyong faith. That is your truth. Facts and hindi nagbabago. But truth based on facts is impregnable," he added.
As the Philippines' King of Talk, Tito Boy has hosted several talk shows in the country such as "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda," which currently airs on GMA Network from Monday to Friday.
Meanwhile, "Your Honor" is a vodcast produced by GMA Network's YouLol Originals.
