Netflix series ‘The Boyfriend’ stars Dai Shun enjoy ‘warm, welcoming’ fan signing event in PH

Japanese couple Nakai Dai and Nakanishi Shun of the hit Netflix dating show “The Boyfriend” enjoyed their time with their fans in the Philippines during a fan signing event held at Novotel Manila in Quezon City on Saturday.

Dai and Shun expressed how welcoming and warm Filipinos have treated them since their arrival, with Dai saying, “I've been to Cebu. So this is my first time visiting Manila. I love Cebu, and the people there are really nice, just like in Manila.”

“It's very warm. And I'm talking about the people and the weather, because I'm pretty sure Japan is really cold right now. So tomorrow I’m gonna explore Manila,” Shun added.

Fans had fun watching the couple playing games like catching post-its in their bodies and doing the same gestures from key words.

They also got the chance to play with them guessing words by describing their drawings and they received treats from Japan.

Shun was also game when asked to perform the hit Japanese song “First Love" by Hikaru Utada.

Towards the end of the show, fans expressed their love for the couple with a video presentation and a cake to celebrate Shun’s birthday.

“This is a great video. Thank you so much. This (cake) is also cute. This is a great success. Thank you so much,” Shun said.

Dai could not contain his emotions and stressed how his fans have helped him to continue on with his life amid the challenges.

“Sometimes, we don't know what we're doing. We get confused. Sometimes, we feel like we're lost. What we're doing is something that we should continue on. All our thoughts and worries. It happens, especially when it's me. He always encourages me to keep going,” Dai said.

“When I'm having hard times, it's always Shun, my agency, and you guys. Sometimes, I'm not sure if I'm needed, wanted by people and all that,” he added.

“But him (Shun), my agency, and you guys, you encourage me to keep doing what I'm doing. And then, hopefully, even more. I don't know if I'm saying you guys, I don't know if I'm telling you guys, or showing you guys enough. Thank you. Really, really, thank you.”

Dai and Shun rose to fame as contestants of the hit Japanese Netflix dating show “The Boyfriend” which aired in 2024.

The queer show features 9 people from different walks of life as they try to find love living on the same roof for a month.

Dai and Shun developed feelings for each other on the show and went on to be a couple in December 2023.

They have continued to chronicle their life as a couple through a vlog on YouTube.
