'Noramania' and how Nora Aunor adored her fans

The nation and the world are mourning the passing of Nora Aunor, who died Wednesday at the age of 71.

In its tribute to Nora Aunor, "24 Oras" on Thursday shared an excerpt of Sandra Aguinaldo's interview with the late Superstar and National Artist for "i-Witness," which first aired August 2017.

Despite her superstardom, it was evident that Nora truly loved her fans and did not treat them any differently. It was why her fans loved her back just as much, and remained solid through the decades.

She also knew them by their personal names.

"Kahit kailan di niya kami tinuring na taga-hanga, lagi niya sinasabi sa 'min 'yun. Pamilya tayo," Deniza Gador, a Noranian, had said in the episode.

Nestor De Guzman, another solid Noranian, had collected stories of fellow Noranians for a book he edited, titled, "Si Nora Aunor sa mga Noranian: Mga Paggunita at Pagtatapat."

"Si ate Guy ang naging pamantayan ng kasikatan. Naabot niya 'yung tayog ng kasikatan na hindi pa narating ng kahit na sinong artista," Nestor said then. "Lalo ito 'yung panahon sa pagitan ng 1969 hanggang 1972, at tinatawag na 'Noramania.'"

During the period of "Noramania," Nora featured in various films and recordings. She also appeared in the weekly variety show, "Superstar," and was hailed the Tawag ng Tanghalan champion. Among her biggest singles were covers of "Pearly Shells" and "Tiny Bubbles."

Around this time, she also met Tirso Cruz III, and the Guy and Pip love team was born. A few years later, she produced and starred in the movie "Banaue" with Christopher De Leon, who she married in real life. They later separated and had an annulment in 1996.

In the wake of Nora's passing, many celebrities took to social media honor her memory and unimpeachable legacy.

Nora's remains now lie at Heritage Park in Taguig City. Tonight is the first night of her wake, which is open to her family.

More family and friends may say farewell to Nora on Friday, while a public viewing will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Her interment is scheduled on April 22 at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. State funeral details have yet to be announced.
