Michael V. warns of deepfake video of fake endorsement
Michael V. has warned his followers of a deepfake video featuring his image and voice to mislead people into buying a product.
On Instagram, the Comedy Genius shared a video of the deepfake and warned the public: "This fake ad was created using A.I. (artificial intelligence)."
He also laid over text to point out the manipulation: "A.I. was used to replace my mouth movement. They used A.I. para pag-aralan at gayahin yung real voice ko."
Bitoy zeroed in on the mouth animation as well as the comments for what he calls a clean job.
He began his Instagram caption, saying "Maging alisto. Huwag magpa-loko."
Pointing out how A.I. has already evolved so fast, Bitoy said "dapat matuto tayong maging mapanuri kung ang pinapanood o binabasa ay fake or totoo" as he encouraged his followers to share his video.
In the comments, fellow celebrities like Joross Gamboa, Chariz Solomon, and Brent Javier expressed how frightening A.I. is fast becoming.
According to a 24 Oras report by Raffy Tima, deepfakes are generated through artificial intelligence. Much like the case of Michael V., deepfakes copy a person's likeness, make them speak in other languages or deliver a false message.
Carlo Nazareno, director of Rights of Democracy.net.ph gave tips on how to spot deepfakes. Tingnan mo na mabuti ;yung ngipin habang nagsasalita. Kasi, minsan nagwa-warp 'yung ngipin, pati 'yung labi. So, 'yun 'yung isang bantayan. Pero 'yung pinakababantayan natin 'yung mensahe mismo. Tanungin natin kung may parang agenda ba itong video na pinapanood natin," he said.
Meanwhile, Dominic Ligot, a data analyst and AI ethics advocate, suggested for people to consider the source of the video. "Sino nagsabi Nisan? Is it a credible source? Sir some random website lang? Some random page? Dun ka magsisimula," he said.
