Marvin Agustin reflects on being a restaurant staff: ‘Dito ako natuto respetuhin at mahalin kahit anong klaseng trabaho’
Marvin Agustin has kept his experience working at a restaurant close to his heart.
On Instagram, the “Ex Ex Lovers” star and restaurateur reflected on his days working at a Mexican restaurant, Tia Maria’s, in 1995.
According to Marvin, he was initially hired as a waiter, but since the restaurant wasn’t selling well back then, he became an all-around staff.
“Dito ako natuto respetuhin at mahalin ang kahit na anong klaseng trabaho,” he said.
“I remember in a day ikot ang mga responsibilidad naming. Waiter, bartender, kitchen help, cashier, minsan [security guard] or janitor, local store marketing. LAHAT!” he said.
Despite it all, Marvin said working for a restaurant benefited him in the long run, especially his mindset.
“Ang sarap pagdaanan at kuhanan ng leksyon ang mga panahon na susubukin ka ng buhay,” he said.
“Kaya laban lang nang laban. Walang makakatalo sa taong ayaw magpatalo,” he added.
In a 2023 “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” episode, Marvin recalled being scouted for a job in show business while still working at Tia Maria’s, but he said no because he enjoyed his work as a waiter.
"Noong nadi-discover ako para maging artista, ang kapal ng mukha ko, nagno-no ako," he said.
"Kasi masayang-masaya ako, nagwe-waiter non, pag-aaralin ako sa umaga tas magta-trabaho sa Tia Maria's sa gabi, tapos ang gusto ko non, maging manager ng restaurant,” he added.
Fast forward to today, Marvin did not only become an actor, but also fulfilled his dream of returning to the kitchen. This time, as the owner of multiple restaurants, including Cochi, Kondwi, and Mr. Monk Dimsum & Roast
