Bernadette Reyes to netizens bashing her amid typhoon coverage: 'Hangad ko pa rin ang kaligtasan niyo'

Bernadette Reyes has something to say about the negative comments she has been receiving online.

The GMA Integrated News broadcaster shared screenshots of netizens commenting about her appearance and voice during her typhoon coverage on tropical storms Emong and Dante.

On Facebook, Bernadette wrote, “It takes a brave spirit to weather the storm but it takes an even bigger heart to wish others well kahit minumura at nilalait na ang buong pagkatao.”

“Maaring hindi ako maganda sa panlabas sa inyong paningin pero hindi nyo ito kayang sabihin if only you know the kind of person that I am,” she added.

Bernadette told netizens who spread memes about her, editing photos and captions “to make me look bad” and those who “ginawa akong katatawanan,” that she still wishes they are safe well during this season.

"Hangad ko pa rin ang kaligtasan niyo at nawa ay ligtas at nasa maayos kayong kalagayan," she said. “Sa mga patuloy na nagcocomment, nag memessage para magpakita ng pagsuporta, please know that I really appreciate each and everyone.”

“[Twenty] years and counting... patuloy na mag lilingkod sa bayan. uulit-ulitin para sa bayan,” she added.

Bernadette told GMA News Online that the recent bashing stemmed from a netizen's edited version of her older post that made it appear as if she was complaining about work.

"In fact, hindi po," she clarified, adding that she was merely sharing stories from the field. "Now I'm the subject of heavy criticism, scrutiny, and insults."

However, she revealed that one of the netizens who left hurtful comments later messaged her to apologize.

She gave one last reminder to the the public to be responsible about what they post and to remain kind.

"Minsan may mga taong basta na lang pinaniniwalaan ang mga bagay sa social media kahit hindi ito ang katotohan. May we be reminded that social media should not be used to spread hate and disinformation. Instead, may it be utilized as a valuable tool to inform, to educate, to inspire the same way journalism serves its purpose. Mabuhay po ang lahat."
