Sofronio Vasquez overjoyed to sing ‘Lupang Hinirang’ at SONA 2025: 'Nakaka-proud'
Sofronio Vasquez expressed his immense joy and pride after singing the Philippine national anthem at the fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on Monday.
Speaking to GMA News Online, Sofronio shared his enthusiasm, emphasizing the significance of the opportunity.
“Masayang-masaya ako that I was chosen to sing the national anthem. Nakaka-proud sa sarili and nakaka-proud na mismong ikaw, after kang kumanta ng specific song na very patriotic, maririnig mo kung ano ‘yung mga nangyayari sa Pilipinas, even not just from the, you know, the President, but you get to know more as a Filipino kung anong kailangan nating malaman,” he said.
Sofronio made history as the first Asian and first Filipino to win "The Voice USA." He was part of Team Michael Bublé.
In the finals, Sofronio delivered two stunning performances with his rendition of "Unstoppable" by Sia and "A Million Dreams" from "The Greatest Showman."
In January, Sofronio returned to the Philippines and had his first solo concert in Cebu.
He was also honored by the Senate for his “The Voice” victory.
Meanwhile, this year’s SONA had no staged ceremonies or photo setups in the red carpet area amid the weather systems affecting the country, but guests still made the effort to dress appropriately for the event.
Among the personalities present at SONA 2025 were GMA Network Senior Vice President, Programming, Talent Management, Worldwide and Support Group, President of GMA Films Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes and Sparkle GMA Artist Center First Vice President Joy Marcelo.
