Kris Bernal admits having thought she won't be able to return to showbiz

Kris Bernal is all set for her showbiz return.

Following her contract signing with Sparkle on Tuesday, the actress and entrepreneur told GMA News Online that “it’s so good to be back” because “hindi ko akalain na makakabalik pa ‘ko.” 

“Kasi siguro parang nasa isip ko, masyado kong in-e-embrace ang pagiging mommy na sa totoo lang, wala na ‘ko masyadong time for myself and at saka wala na rin akong time to do other things. So naisip ko, makakabalik pa ba ‘ko sa showbiz?”

But Kris found the balance between work and motherhood, “so ngayon sabi ko, kaya ko na, makakabalik na ‘ko. And very thankful ako sa GMA kasi tinanggap nila ‘ko ulit.”

Kris said she also realized that mothers can also be artists.

“Marami na rin kasi siguro akong nakita na ‘pag nagiging mommy na, parang nag-se-settle na sila and then they didn’t want to go back to showbiz na, okay na sila. So hindi ko akalain na pwede pa pala,” she said.

“Siguro by choice pa rin talaga if gusto mo or hindi na,” Kris added. “Pero ako siguro dahil kaya ko pa at na-mi-miss ko rin ‘yung acting, na-mi-miss ko ‘yung trabaho, na-mi-miss ko ‘yung industry kaya gusto ko bigyan ng oras.”

And now she is in this new chapter in her career, Kris is looking forward to returning to the drama genre and maybe playing mother roles.

“Pasok na rin sa ‘kin eh, mas bagay na rin sa ‘kin ‘yung mga mommy roles kasi before talaga, kinakapa ko pa eh. Syempre 'di ba, wala naman akong experience,” Kris said.

“Siguro, gusto kong gawin, drama pa din. Heavy iyakan pa din kasi diyan ako nahulma eh, tsaka diyan ako nakilala eh sa drama talaga, so ‘yun ‘yung gusto kong balikan.”

Kris rose to fame after being named Ultimate Love Team on “Starstruck” in 2006. She has taken a break from showbiz in recent years, but made an acting comeback in an episode of “Tadhana” in March.

Kris is also busy as a wife to Perry Choi, mom to Hailee, and as a businesswoman and content creator. — LA, GMA Integrated News
