Aegis members remember late bandmate Mercy Sunot
Aegis members took the time to remember their late member Mercy Sunot who passed away in November 2024.
On "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," sisters Juliet and Kris Sunot, Rey Abenoja, Stella Pabico, Rowena Adriano and Vilma Goloviogo first spoke about their band and remembered Mercy.
According to Juliet, Mercy planned to join their February 2025 concert at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City after undergoing her operation in the United States.
“Nag-uusap kami palagi. Sabi niya pag na-operahan siya, after po noon, uuwi siya kasi may concert po kami ng February 2025 [sa New Frontier]. Gusto niyang sumama talaga. Tapos 'yun nga,” Juliet said.
“Pagkatapos noong operation, nag-usap pa kami. OK naman siya. Kaso 'yun nga, sinabi niya na may nakita sa lungs niya kasi 'yung lungs ang nauna sa kaniya,” she added.
Mercy was diagnosed with three types of cancer: breast cancer, lung cancer, and bone cancer. In November 2024, she took to social media to ask for prayers after undergoing lung surgery. “May tubig pala, may inflammation ‘yung lungs ko, so ginagawan na nila ng paraan," she said back then.
Two days later, Mercy's Aegis bandmates announced her death on social media.
It's been nine months since and Aegis members are coping with the loss. According to Rey, he still feels like something is missing.
“Parang kulang na kulang sa grupo 'yung may isang nawala, lalo na sa bosesan. Parang ano eh kulang talaga. Hindi pwedeng palitan ng kung sino man eh. Walang makakapalit sa kaniya eh,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mercy’s younger sister Kris said it was hard to cope with her death due to the pressure they felt from their fans.
“Nahihirapan po kasi pressure din po kasi hinahanap nila 'yung isa sa amin. Minsan naano ako kasi uy kaboses mo pala si Ate pero parang nahihirapan kami kasi yung grupo nga eh [mag-isa si Ate],” she said on Fast Talk.
In the same interview, the band gave a glimpse of their song dedicated to Mercy, which was written in the United States.
