Pia Arcangel on why she stays in journalism: 'I get to witness history'
Pia Arcangel on Friday renewed her ties with GMA Network, a place she said feels like "home."
In an interview following her contract signing, the veteran broadcast journalist shared her reasons for staying in the industry.
“I don't feel like I'm working at all. It doesn't feel like a job. Diba, totoo ‘yung sinasabi nila na if you like your job, then you never work a day in your life,” Arcangel told GMA News Online.
More than that, Arcangel said she gets to "witness history in front of my very eyes."
"And to share that history, and report on that history with viewers who trust us and whose lives it will impact, that to me is very meaningful," she added.
With a ton of experiences and wisdom up her sleeve, Arcangel offered advice to aspiring broadcasters and journalists.
Her first word of advice is: “Be open to change.”
“You should be adaptable. I mean, look at this industry. We started out, you know, faxing our stories and then emailing them. Now we're sending them by group chat. You know, it's constantly [about] adapting.”
More importantly, Arcangel said, “Sa lahat ng gusto maging mamamahayag, tandaan lang natin na nananaig dapat lagi ang katotohanan, integridad, at ang kredibilidad.”
Arcangel has been with GMA Network for 23 years. She previously anchored “Unang Hirit” and “Balitanghali,” and hosted the children’s show “Art Angel.”
Arcangel is currently an anchor on “24 Oras Weekend” and “Saksi.” She also hosts the interview show and podcast “Power Talks.” —JCB, GMA Integrated News
