'Lost Sabungeros' receives Gawad Urian nomination
“Lost Sabungeros” is nominated at the 48th Gawad Urian Awards!
According to the award-giving body, GMA Public Affairs’ first investigative documentary film is nominated for the Best Documentary award.
It will be competing against four other documentaries.
Aside from the “Lost Sabungeros,” GMA Pictures' highly decorated “Green Bones,” also received eight nominations at the Gawad Urian including a Best Actor nods for its cast members Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid.
More of its nominations include Best Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography and Best Music.
Winners for Gawad Urian will be announced at the awarding ceremony on October 11.
"Lost Sabungeros" looks into one of the biggest scandals in the Philippines: the disappearance of over 30 sabungeros or cockfighters who have been missing since 2021.
It was previously shortlisted in the Documentary category under Investigative Journalism at the 2025 New York TV & Film Awards 2025.
"Lost Sabungeros" premiered at the QCinema International Film Festival in November 2024. Following the screening, Kapuso journalist Kara David led a talkback session with the film's production team and families of the missing cockfighters.
It was also screened at the University of the Philippines Film Institute in late November 2024.
