GMA Public Affairs launches Storytellers' Academy with Jessica Soho as the first mentor

GMA Public Affairs on Tuesday launched Storytellers’ Academy, with none other than Jessica Soho as the workshop’s first mentor and speaker.

According to a report by Athena Imperial on "Unang Balita," the workshop was attended by hundreds of students, content creators, and young professionals. They learned about significant stories that should be posted online and how these should be told.

Soho spoke about the principles and practices she's held on to throughout her decades-long career.

“Marami akong natutunan. Gusto kong mai-share para maihanda rin ‘yung mga susunod sa atin,” Soho said in an interview.

A journalist of 40 years, Soho said that she is in “a wonderful position to report everything that transpired.”

“And para rin makita, have we moved forward or is it the same old issues na tinatalakay pa rin natin.”

More than stories and posts being entertaining on social media, Soho said they should be informative and accurate.

“Importante ‘yung accuracy kasi daming fake news,” Soho said. “’Wag magbabalita nang hindi naman tama. Parepareho tayong dapat mag fact check, mag cross check.”

She added that fairness is also important and that both sides of the story need to be known.

Meanwhile, Atom Araullo was the workshop’s special guest. He took part in interviews with three selected participants. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
