Legaspi family addresses online criticism; Carmina admits getting affected
The Legaspi family, composed of Zoren, Carmina, and twins Cassy and Mavy, opened up about how they handle online criticism and fake news.
In their GMA Integrated News Interview with Nelson Canlas, which aired on “24 Oras” Thursday, the family shared emotional insights into their strong family bond and the admirable character of their children.
Per Mavy, when addressing those who believe or spread false reports, they follow the strategy of non-confrontation.
“Lahat ng tao na naniniwala sa fake news or whatsoever, then let them be,” he said. “We don't fight back, whatsoever. Yes, tao lang kami. It hurts to see those, but at the end of the day, what do they know?”
Zoren agreed, explaining that they allow people to believe whatever they wish.
“Wala kaming kalaban, wala kaming mga kaaway. We get to sleep properly. Mahimbing ang mga tulog namin,” he said.
Carmina, however, admitted she feels the emotional toll of the criticism.
“Ako kasi, na-a-affect ako kasi why? Why? Why is this happening and why are you doing this to our family? Artista kami, oo. Open book ‘yung aming buhay pero never akong nakipag-away sa ganito. That is not me. Hindi kami gano’n,” she said.
Zoren also addressed the rumors about their parenting style.
“Mali din sa mga balita na very sakal ko ‘yung dalawa. No way,” he said.
When asked about their upbringing, Cassy vouched for her parents.
“I think they–I think my parents, our parents, raised us perfectly as I would say,” she said.
Carmina explained her philosophy regarding raising children in the spotlight, noting that she cannot “guard your children 24/7 because you have to expose them sa real world.”
However, she confessed to being a nervous mom.
“Gusto ko, kumbaga, parang ako na lang ang masaktan, ‘wag na kayo.”
Mavy also clarified that while they still let their parents know about their activities out of respect, they no longer need to inform them of their every move.
“We just let them know, both of them, that’s respect,” he said.
Zoren then became emotional when recalling a significant act of filial devotion from Cassy when she secretly paid his hospital bills when her dad was once confined for a month due to illness.
“‘Yun ‘yung isang wish ng magulang. ‘Yun ‘yung fear ng mga magulang eh. Minsan, ‘pag tanda 'di ba, sasabihin sino mag-aalaga sa akin? Ako I am at peace dahil alam ko alagaan kami nitong dalawa,” he said.
Carmina also went on to share about a promise she received from Mavy when he was seven years old.
“You know what mom, when you grow older, I'm gonna carry you going up the stairs and going down,” she said.
“No’ng time na ‘yon, hindi naman ako nasugatan. So talagang alam ko din na kahit tumanda kami, magkaroon kami ng sakit, alam namin na aalagaan kami ng mga anak namin.”
The Legaspi family is set to star together in “Hating Kapatid.”
It will begin airing on October 13 at 2:30 p.m. on GMA Afternoon Prime.
