Ruru Madrid learns Pinoy martial arts Laraw Kali Pamuok

Ruru Madrid is learning something new: Laraw Kali Pamuok, a form of Filipino martial arts.

According to Athena Imperial’s report on “24 Oras” Thursday, the Kapuso Primetime Action Hero is practicing at least three times a week under his coach.

“Mahal ko ‘yung martial arts eh. Gusto ko ‘yung napapagod ‘yung sarili ko. I love learning new skills,” he said.

For Ruru, it’s not just another physical activity; it's a way of honoring Filipino heritage.

“Mero’n tayong sariling atin eh. Ito, talagang Pilipino. So might as well, ito ‘yung bibitbitin ko at I’m hoping na makahawa ako sa mga kapwa natin Pilipino at makapagbigay tayo ng inspirasyon sa mga kabataan na i-try nila ‘to,” he said.

Beyond the techniques, Ruru values the lessons the practice teaches, including self-discipline.

“Gusto kong ibuhos lahat ng energy at attention ko dito at i-master ko siya. Eventually, ang goal ko or ang navi-visualize ko is maging lakan ako someday, maging teacher, and I get to go sa mga schools, makapagturo sa mga bata about Filipino martial arts,” he said.

Ruru also knows that his training will help him in his future roles.

“Kung ano ‘yung hindi ko nagawa doon sa last project ko, gagawin ko siya dito. I always want na hanapin ‘yung best version ng sarili ko all the time,” he said.

Ruru recently starred in “Lolong” and “Green Bones,” the latter of which he won several acting awards for.

He also made recent appearances in “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre” as Ybrahim.
