'Bubble Gang' at 30: 'Ang Dating Doon,' 'Boy Pick-up,' more iconic sketches make comeback
"Bubble Gang" just aired the first part of its 30th anniversary special on Sunday, and the country's longest-running comedy show turned back the clock on some of its iconic sketches!
Several guests also appeared on the episode, such as Rhian Ramos, Jillian Ward, and AiAi Delas Alas, along with the much-awaited return of some of its former cast members.
Here are some of the highlights of the first part of the anniversary special.
1. The return of Boy Pick-Up and Neneng B
Ogie Alcasid and Sam Pinto reprised their roles as Boy Pick-Up and Neneng B in the show.
Their return was featured in a segment showcasing a pick-up battle between Awit (Kokoy De Santos) and Skrrt (EA Guzman), who were competing for Ana B (Analyn Barro).
As Awit and Skrrt exchanged their smooth pick-up lines, Boy Pick-Up and Neneng B made a surprise entrance in their iconic costumes, giving fans a nostalgic throwback to one of the show's most beloved sketches.
Boy Pick-Up became a household name for his clever yet often nonsensical pick-up lines, delivered with trademark confidence and poetic flair during his on-screen battles. Neneng B, his muse and biggest supporter, added charm to the segment with her playful admiration and reactions.
2. Jillian Ward and AiAi Delas Alas comedic duo
Jillian Ward showed that she can also slay comedic roles.
The "Never Say Die" star played the role of Amponyeta, the adopted daughter of Antonietta, played by Betong Sumaya, in the skit titled "Antonietta."
She also showed that she could match Comedy Queen AiAi Delas Alas' comedic energy, impressing viewers with her quirks, witty punchlines, humorous accents, and expressive reactions.
3. Rhian Ramos on Mr. and Mrs.
Another guest star featured in the anniversary special is Rhian Ramos, who took on the role of Trixie in the "Mr. and Mrs." skit.
In the skit, Chariz Solomon and Michael V. visited an OB-GYN for a doctor's check-up when they accidentally bumped into Trixie.
When Trixie saw the couple, she greeted Bitoy and Chariz, mistakenly assuming Chariz was his sister. She then introduced herself as the woman Bitoy met during his vacation in Boracay — and revealed that he had ghosted her afterward.
Trixie went on to mention Bitoy and Chariz's struggle to conceive a child. Moments later, a nurse called Trixie's name, prompting Chariz to confront Bitoy and accuse him of cheating with her.
Bitoy quickly denied the accusation, but before he could explain further, Trixie rushed out of the doctor's office announcing that she was pregnant and that Bitoy was the father, leaving Chariz furious.
4. The nostalgia of 'Ang Dating Doon'
"Bubble Gang" recreated its iconic "Ang Dating Doon" skit featuring Brother Willy (Cesar Cosme), Brother Jocel (Chito Francisco), and Kokoy De Santos as Cong. Kikoy, who took the place of Brod Pete (Isko Salvador).
Rita Daniela was also in the segment, singing the "Voltes V" theme song.
In the sketch, the hosts were asked by the audience about the alleged flood control project anomaly in the country. They responded using parodied Bible verses, injecting their trademark comedic wit and humor into each answer.
They skit also delivered a punch line about nepo babies or the children of politicians and businessmen.
"Tungkol sa na-open open na kaso na ‘yan. 'Yan po ay na-open dahil 'yung anak ng mga mayayaman, nagpakita ng yaman nila. Eh alam n'yo ba 'yung open 'pag binaligtad nepo," Brother Jocel said.
