Sparkle star Migs Almendras wins Best Supporting Actor award for 'Dreamboi' at 2025 Cinesilip Film Fest
Congratulations are in order for Migs Almendras!
The Sparkle talent just bagged the Best Supporting Actor trophy at the first Cinesilip Film Festival for his work in controversial film "Dreamboi."
This is Migs' first acting award for film. Speaking to GMA News Online, the actor echoed his acceptance speech, saying the award is wholly unexpected. "My reaction really was WTF," he said. "I wasn't prepared for this."
According to Migs, his career aspirations have changed since he shifted his focus on hosting. But "this recognition gives me some sort of encouragement and a sense of comfort in this path/career that I have chosen in life," he said.
He adds the award is a reminder that "even if you're focused on something else, you are and will be an actor."
In "Dreamboi," Migs plays Maki, a flirty colleague of the lead character, a transwoman named Diwa played EJ Fallorina.
Migs admits getting into character was difficult in the beginning. "I didn’t see myself in this particular way," he said.
"I had to slowly understand that I needed to look at the role and hit it’s objectives which was to be charming and create this fantasy through the eyes on a transwoman or someone part of the LGBT+ community," Migs added.
"Dreamboi" is an erotic thriller exploring trans desire that initially got an X-rating twice. The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board only gave it an R-18 rating on its 3rd appeal.
Directed by trans film maker Rodina Singh, "Dreamboi" is topbilled by Tony Labrusca, Migs and EJ.
"I think I speak on behalf of the production when I say it was a difficult movie to pull off," Migs continued.
"With such limited resources, getting an X-rating twice, limited cinemas, 'Dreamboi' had a lot to deal with and we’re proud with what we’ve achieved," he said.
At Cinesilip, "Dreamboi" bagged several awards including Best Picture, Audience Prize, Best Sound, and Migs' Best Supporting Actor.
Congratulations!
