MTRCB summons Viva over content creator’s cursing during 'Dreamboi' premiere

MTRCB summons Viva over content creator’s cursing during 'Dreamboi' premiere

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has summoned Viva Communications, Inc. after its content creator allegedly cursed at the agency during the premiere of CineSilip Film Festival 2025 entry "Dreamboi."

In a statement, the MTRCB said “the content creator’s remark is disrespectful to the institution and to the people behind the Board’s work.”

According to the MTRCB sent a letter dated October 23 to Viva President Vincent Del Rosario and arranged a meeting on November 4 to discuss the incident, which video has surfaced on social media.

The MTRCB said the meeting is a venue for constructive discussion and to reinforce the importance of professionalism and accountability within the entertainment industry.

According to the MTRCB, the possible dialogue with Viva also seeks to promote mutual understanding and responsible conduct in public events.

“In line with our Responsableng Panonood campaign and our vision for healthy collaborative practices with our stakeholders, we would like to invite you for a dialogue on the said report,” the MTRCB said in the letter.

“While we respect freedom of expression, the Agency views with serious concern the use of language that undermines respect for public institutions and the standards governing film classification,” it added.

The MTRCB did not name the content creator in its statement dated October 31, but videos of content creator Sassa Gurl cursing the agency for initially issuing "Dreamboi" an X-rating have made the rounds online.

"San ako dinala ng gay humor ko EME joke lang ulit," Sassa wrote on social media following the news.

"Dreamboi" received an R-rating on its third attempt last October and took home a number of awards at the Cinesilip Film Festival including Best Supporting Actor for Migs Almendras, Best Picture, Audience Prize, and Best Sound.

"Dreamboi" is directed by trans film maker Rodina Singh and it topbilled by Tony Labrusca, EJ Fallorina, and Migs. Sassa Gurl made a cameo.

GMA News Online has sought comment from Viva Entertainment about the matter but the company has yet to provide a statement as of posting time. — with reports from Hermes Joy Tunac/LA, GMA Integrated News
