Did Meryll Soriano, Mel Martinez feel the pressure of being related to Maricel Soriano?
Did Meryll Soriano and Mel Martinez feel pressured in their showbiz careers because they are relatives of Maricel Soriano?
During their guest appearance on "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda" on Monday, Meryll and Mel admitted that it's only natural for them to feel some pressure—after all, Maricel is the Diamond Star.
"Siguro Tito Boy noong bata-bata ako, mayroon. Dati nakaka-ano pa 'yung ang galing-galing mo kasi pamangkin ka ni Maricel Soriano. Hanggang ngayon pa rin naman," Meryll said.
Meryll also shared that it's an honor to be Maricel's niece.
"She's also one of my greatest teachers growing up in the industry. She's really one of the most generous actors I've worked with. Hindi siya madamot na artista," she said.
Like Meryll, Maricel's half-brother Mel also admitted that he felt pressured because she has "set the bar so high."
"S'yempre noong nagsisimula pa lang, like Meryl said, na-guide naman kami ni Ate Maria. So noong lumaki na kami and we found our niche, siyempre we tried to ano, ayaw naming mapahiya si Ate. Kumbaga, we would like her to be proud of us," Mel said.
"So we give our best all the time. If not our best, gusto namin siyang higitan. Siyempre 'di ba kung magaling si Ate Maria, kumbaga para hindi kami ma-pressure, kailangan parang lalagpasan namin si Ate," he quipped.
With a career spanning over 50 years, Maricel is an award-winning actress, winning multiple FAMAS, Luna, and Star Awards.
She has also starred in various and TV series such as the Kapuso series "Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real," and "Ang Pilyang Kerubin," among others.
