Rob Deniel shares meeting with Ogie Alcasid after performing OPM icon’s hit songs

Rob Deniel rose to popularity after his viral performance of Ogie Alcasid’s hit songs “Nandito Ako,” and “Ikaw Sana” in an award show in July 2025.

In his guesting on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,” Tuesday, the rising OPM singer expressed his gratitude to Ogie, whom he met shortly after his performance.

“Nag-congrats siya. Siyempre, ako po thankful kay Sir Ogie po for the song and then 'yung suporta niya po sa akin noong pinerform ko sa harap niya ‘yon,” Rob said.

According to the “RomCom" singer, it was nerve-wracking to see Ogie watch his performance onstage, admitting that he hesitated in accepting the offer of singing a tribute for the celebrated OPM icon at that time.

“Nakakakaba sa totoo lang. Noong time na ‘yon hindi ko alam kung tatanggapin ko po ‘yung offer na magbigay ng tribute for Ogie Alcasid not because he is not my idol but because ‘yung pressure na kakantahin ko siya sa harap niya,” he shared.

Rob also said that he did not know how he would pull off the performance, but he was able to deliver it successfully thanks to his team.

“Tapos parang hindi ko alam kung paano ko i-pu-pull off 'yung performance. Ayun, thankful naman ako sa team, sa banda ko na sila talaga ‘yung nag-push sa akin na ituloy natin 'to. Nagawan natin ng sariling rendition,” he added.

In a previous interview with members of the press, Ogie thanked Rob for contributing to the increasing streams of his “Nandito Ako” song on Spotify.

Ever since Rob’s cover became viral, he released his own version of “Nandito Ako” and “Ikaw Sana” in October 2025.

Aside from his cover songs, Rob’s other songs include “Miss Miss,” “Sinta,” and “Ang Pag-Ibig,” among others.

Rob will headline his first major solo concert, "The Rob Deniel Show," on February 27, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. He will be joined by Ogie himself alongside Arthur Nery, Janine Teñoso, and Pops Fernandez.
