David Licauco says he has deeper respect for journalists thanks to ‘Never Say Die’ role

“Never Say Die,” the upcoming GMA Prime series, promises hard-hitting action, but lead star David Licauco also shared that the show carries a deeper message.

According to Aubrey Carampel's report on "24 Oras" Wednesday, the Pambansang Ginoo plays Andrew Dizon, an investigative journalist, a role that has given him greater insight and more respect for the profession. 

“For example, ito, tina-tackle namin dito ‘yung mga nangyayaring masama, nilalagay natin ‘yung life natin in danger, so ‘yung mga journalists, ‘yun trabaho nila eh,” David said.

“And it’s not easy. 'Di ba, tsaka you’re away from your family, hindi mo alam kung ano ‘yung magiging next. Para lang makapag-serve sa mga Filipinos, para maging aware sila sa mga nangyayari." 

Meanwhile, Jillian Ward plays Joey Delgado, a Gen Z vlogger whom she says is very educated and does her research.

Jillian said she relates to Joey, an empowered woman who can fight for herself.

“Kasi si Joey, parang lagi siyang minamaliit nila Andrew kasi babae siya at bata siya, pero pinapakita niya na kaya niyang lumaban,” Jillian said. “And she will fight for the truth, and justice must prevail.”

David was all praises for Jillian, whom he described as humble and intelligent. 

“Si Jillian, I have so much respect for her. And mabait si Jillian, humble,” David said. “And matalino si Jillian. Like, she likes reading books and I see that on set. And also like ‘yung mga conversations namin, it’s not shallow, it’s about life.”

Kim Ji Soo likewise praised Jillian, saying she has good eyes as an actor "and when she does the action, it’s cool.”

“We are very close now, like everyone. Like David, Raheel [Bhyria], Jillian, we’re all together very close. So we are very playful on the set,” Ji Soo added.

“Never Say Die” premieres on GMA Network on February 2 at 8:55 p.m.
