Mike Tan makes a colorful comeback in 'Magpakailanman'
This Saturday, January 31, “Magpakailanman” presents a powerful journey of discovering home in unexpected places and ultimately embracing the true meaning of belonging.
Titled "Most Beautiful Player," the episode stars Mike Tan, Andre Paras, Tetay, and Archi Adamos.
Mike brings to life the colorful story of Dido, also known as Yasmine. At 13, he was left behind by his mother, who had to work for the family. His father, an alcoholic, never treated him as a son and often scolded him for not being “strong and tough” like his brothers, simply because he was gay.
Longing for love and belonging, Yasmine found comfort in basketball. But the sport’s toxic culture rejected him for his sexuality, leaving him lost and vulnerable.
He turned to vices until he discovered a second family among older gay mentors in a beauty parlor, who embraced him and nurtured his confidence.
With their support, Yasmine returned to basketball, where his talent finally earned him acceptance in local teams. He later became a mentor himself, guiding younger players and proving that home can be found in the people who believe in you.
Yet in 2020, Yasmine’s journey led him back to the home he thought he had lost — his father. When he learned of his father’s illness, Yasmine hesitated but chose to care for him.
In those final months, he discovered that his father had always been proud of him and had accepted his sexuality, though shame kept him silent.
Will Yasmine’s journey as a basketball player who broke stereotypes end with the greatest victory of all — finding home in his father’s love?
Directed by Richard I. Arellano, written by Jessie Villabrille, and researched by Karl Angelo Butuan, this episode is a reminder that home is not only the place we discover in others, but also the place where love and forgiveness bring us back to where we truly belong.
