Kris Bernal addresses uniform issue involving household staff: 'Choice talaga nila 'yun'

Kris Bernal took to TikTok to address netizens criticizing her after her household staff were seen wearing uniforms outside the house.

In a video posted on Friday, Kris answered a netizen’s comment that asked, “Bakit naka uniform mga yaya mo. Dapat pinagbihis mo man lang.” 

Kris clarified that they always ask their helpers whether they want to wear uniforms even before hiring them.

“Karamihan sa mga naging kasambahay namin, gusto nila may uniform,” she said.

The actress explained that her staff members are also given the option to change into casual clothes whenever they go out.

She added that they repeatedly offer the helpers the chance to wear different outfits, including casual clothes, but that the helpers decline.

“Pwede naman silang mag-dress o mag-casual. Ayaw talaga nilang magpalit,” Kris said, stressing that forcing her staff to change clothes would be inappropriate. “Anong gusto n’yo, pilitin ko sila? Ayaw nila magpalit.” 

She also pushed back against accusations that the situation was harmful or exploitative.

“Bakit nagagalit kayo sa akin? Anong ginawa ko? Nasaktan ko ba siya?” Bernal said.

One of the household staff members, who Kris called “Ate Tina,” also spoke up to clarify that wearing a uniform was the staff's own decision.

“OK lang sa amin. Talagang kami ang may gusto na mag-uniform. Walang palit-palit kasi diretso na. Ayaw na namin ng more time magbihis-bihis,” Tina said.

“So OK lang. Walang problema,” she added. 

Kris reiterated that the issue should not be taken out of context.

“OK lang sa kanila ’yon. Choice talaga nila ’yon,” she said.

“Kaya tahimik na lang tayo. Kayo ang dudumi talaga ng utak eh,” she added.

Kris married businessman Perry Choi in 2021. After giving birth to Hailee, she took a break from showbiz.

After a three-year hiatus, Kris officially made her TV comeback this January.

She now stars with Beauty Gonzalez in the series “House of Lies,” which airs on GMA Afternoon Prime at 3:20 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays.
