First-ever Sparkle Run is happening on May 30

The first-ever Sparkle Run is happening this May!

According to Nelson Canlas’ report on “24 Oras,"  Thursday, GMA Network Senior Vice President Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, Sparkle GMA Artist Center First Vice President Joy Marcelo, Runrio President and CEO Rio dela Cruz, and Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno signed a memorandum of agreement for the event that is set to happen on May 30.

“Gusto natin kasi i-promote ang health and wellness dito sa Sparkle. Marami talaga tayong artists and influencers na into fitness and excited kami to show sa mga tao na we have to take care of our health and I'm very happy na ka-partner natin dito ang City of Manila,” Gozon-Valdes said.

“We are very happy with this partnership kasi siyempre ‘yung running ngayon ay talagang very popular and gusto pa natin mas may ma-reach out tayo na mga kabataan, mga kababayan natin na gustong magkaroon ng healthy lifestyle,” Dela Cruz shared.

Aside from health benefits, the race also aims to offer a lesson in Philippine history, as the route will take runners through several historical and iconic landmarks across Manila.

“Manila is a very old city, but it has a lot of story to tell and a lot of history and it's [an] opportunity also for the younger generation to be reminded noong mga naganap at makasaysayang lugar,” Moreno said.

Meanwhile, Sparkle stars such as Martin Javier, Kristoffer Martin, Royce Cabrera, Aira Lopez, and Mikee Quintos expressed their excitement over the upcoming Sparkle Run and shared their own tips.

“My go-to is my headphones, hindi mawawala ‘yon kasi it sets the mood. Of course, your water. ‘Yun lang ang kailangan mo,” Mikee said when asked on what essentials she will bring.

“You always have to have your shoes, your gear, your clothes kung saan ka komportable during race day. Bawal kang mag-try ng bago sa race day itself kasi maninibago ka. Hindi mo gusto bigla ‘yung feeling,” Martin said.

Kristoffer, for his part, shared it is best to warm up first before any activity, including running, to avoid getting injuries.
