PBB Collab 2.0: Housemates learn basic sign language from deaf awareness advocates
The housemates of “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0” were introduced to basic sign language as part of a learning session on deaf awareness and inclusive communication.
On Friday’s episode, Rack Corpuz and GP Palma from the Kakamay Movement entered the house, where they shared their experiences and discussed the importance of understanding the challenges faced by the deaf community.
Rack, who is deaf, was accompanied by GP, who served as her interpreter during the discussion.
She shared that she was born with normal hearing but lost it at the age of seven after experiencing a high fever and sore throat with yellowish ulcers.
Rack explained that she later lost her hearing due to a high dosage of antibiotics prescribed to her at the time.
Through the Kakamay Movement, Rack said they continue to work toward uplifting deaf individuals.
“Gumagawa kami ng paraan para maiangat ang mga deaf sa lahat ng aspect ng buhay. For example, education. Right to have sign language,” she said.
GP also explained that the group aims to promote awareness.
“Ang Kakamay po, ang goal namin ay magkaroon ng awareness at pagbabago at equality, pang-unawa kung gaano kalaki ang impact ng communication barrier sa mga deaf,” he said.
During the session, Rack taught the housemates how to sign basic greetings such as “hello,” “good morning,” “good afternoon,” and “good evening,” as well as numbers, giving them hands-on exposure to sign language.
