Veteran actress Vangie Labalan passes away at 83
Veteran actress Vangie Labalan has passed away, her family announced. She was 83.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, her son, Carlo Labalan, wrote that she succumbed to illness on February 12, surrounded by those dearest to her.
“To everyone who know her, love her, and was touched by her kindness, we extend our deepest gratitude. She is deeply loved and will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched,” Carlo said.
“She will be coming home soon. Further details regarding her wake and funeral services will be shared in the coming days.”
Vangie's niece, Van-van Aligam, also posted emotional tributes, sharing that her aunt did not suffer in her final moments and remained her cheerful self until the end.
“I’m glad you passed peacefully, surrounded by family… We love you. Rest easy,” she wrote.
In another tribute, Van credited her for shaping not only her own life but also the lives of their family members.
"My aunt’s greatest masterpiece wasn’t only on screen — it was in the lives she shaped. She believed excellence was a responsibility. Talent had to be disciplined. Purpose mattered more than applause. That standard didn’t stay in the studio; it ran through our family," she said.
Vangie was born Ma. Christina Bonghanoy Labalan on January 20, 1943.
