Bea Alonzo withdraws cyber libel case against Cristy Fermin

Bea Alonzo has withdrawn the cyber libel case she previously filed against Cristy Fermin, following a public apology issued on the latter’s vlog.

Fermin, along with her co-hosts, Rommel Villamor and Wendell Alvarez, aired a “heartfelt and sincere apology” addressed to Alonzo, her family, and the public on her vlog “Showbiz Now Na!”

“We deeply regret the unintended and unfortunate consequences of our actions, including the public persecution that Ms. Alonzo has endured,” their statement said.

“It was never our intention to defame, offend, or harm Ms. Alonzo in any way. We realize now that our words might have fallen short of the respect and fairness that everyone deserves, especially someone who has dedicated her life to her craft and her audience.”

They also committed to “cease and desist from any further commentary or content” that would put Alonzo in a negative light and thanked the actress for her willingness to work toward “resolution and healing.”

“To Ms. Alonzo, we extend our gratitude. We are hopeful that we can both move on from this chapter with a renewed understanding and mutual respect,” they said. “Thank you to everyone for your understanding, and for giving us the chance to rectify our unintended shortcomings.”

Following the apology, Alonzo’s camp, Garcia Elauria Ruanto & Associated (GERA), released an official statement confirming her decision to resolve the matter through mediation after two years of legal proceedings.

“After two years of legal proceedings & with the case pending before the Regional Trial Court, this matter has run its course under the law. The process has not been easy for any party involved. It has required accountability, reflection & fortitude,” the statement read.

The camp emphasized that the decision was “neither an act of retreat nor concession,” but rather “an act of resolve, anchored in forgiveness.”

“Upon deep reflection, Ms. Alonzo has chosen to forgive. Not out of weakness but out of strength. Not to erase what was done, but to free herself from a cycle of harm & hostility that no longer serves her life or her purpose.”

Alonzo, according to the statement, views this chapter as something to close “with grace, dignity & peace,” as she turns her focus back to her work, advocacies, and her role in uplifting others, particularly those navigating their own silent battles.

“We ask that this moment be seen for what it truly is. Not merely an ending, but a powerful expression of emotional maturity, personal growth & courage. We thank all those who continue to respect both the legal process & the humanity behind it.”

In May 2024, Alonzo filed a cyber libel complaint against Fermin, Ogie Diaz, and their co-hosts on their respective programs.

Alonzo's complaint affidavit states she was the victim of false, malicious, and damaging information from someone who pretended to be close to her, which was published and discussed on Diaz and Fermin's online shows without any basis.

In July 2025, the Quezon City Regional Trial Court issued warrants of arrest against Fermin, Villamor, and Alvarez.

The following month, they posted bail worth P48,000 each. —KG, GMA Integrated News
