Priscilla Meirelles seeks PH recognition of divorce from John Estrada

Priscilla Meirelles has filed a petition with the Regional Trial Court of Quezon City seeking recognition of her divorce from John Estrada, which was granted in Brazil last year.

In an official statement from her lawyers posted on her Instagram Stories, the Brazilian beauty queen shared that the First Family Court of the Judicial District of Boa Vista, State of Roraima, had issued a Sentença on March 31, 2025, formally dissolving her marriage under Brazilian law.

“By filing this Petition, Priscilla seeks to have the Sentença issued by the First Family Court of the Judicial District of Boa Vista, State of Roraima, as well as all its legal effects, recognized and enforced in the Philippines, the country which she has come to love and call home,” the statement said.

It added that the move is intended to formalize her civil status and ensure that all her official documents reflect this change.

Moreover, Priscilla considers this move as "a significant step in her journey towards healing, closing a chapter of her life, and starting a new beginning as a single woman."

Priscilla acknowledged the support of her legal team regarding her petition.

“I am immensely grateful to my dedicated and incredible team of lawyers for their relentless support throughout this journey. Malayo pa but Malayo Na,” she said.

Priscilla and John got married in 2011. They have one daughter, Samantha Anechka, who was born in 2012.

Earlier this month, Priscilla confirmed her divorce from John on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” noting that she had filed for divorce in Brazil in 2024.

She shared that she decided to divorce John after 14 years because she no longer sees herself sharing a life with him anymore.

“For me, the marriage is no longer valid, I don’t see myself sharing a life with that person anymore," she said. “I fought for 14 years and I got to the point where hindi ko na kaya and I realized after a lot of things that happened, the best thing for me is to really move forward mag-isa." —Carby Rose Basina/JCB, GMA Integrated News
