Anne Curtis' mom Carmen slams Bong Suntay for remark about her daughter

Anne Curtis’ mom, Carmen, has hit back at Rep. Bong Suntay following his remark about her daughter during a House hearing.

On Facebook on Tuesday, Carmen posted a brief but pointed message addressed to the lawmaker.

“Mr. Bong Suntay [you are a] sick man, I reckon!! [You're] foul!!” she wrote.

Carmen also reposted the Facebook post of Anne's sister, Jasmine Curtis, calling out Suntay. She said the issue goes beyond “one female celebrity” and stressed that it reflects how all women are continuously “reduced to bodies in spaces dominated by men in power.”

Jasmine called for accountability from those in power, saying that if the public wants safer environments for “our daughters, nieces, and future leaders,” accountability must begin with elected officials.

On Tuesday, members of the House committee on justice called out Suntay for verbalizing his apparent desire for Anne during the proceedings on the pending impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.

“Alam niyo, minsan, minsan nasa Shangri-La ako. Nakita ko si Anne Curtis. Ang ganda-ganda pala niya. You know, may desire sa loob ko na nag-init talaga, na-imagine ko na lang kung ano’ng pwedeng mangyari, pero siyempre hanggang imagination na lang ‘yon. Pero ‘di naman siguro ako pwedeng kasuhan kung ano ang na-imagine ko eh,” Suntay said.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte also urged Suntay to apologize for his remarks.

"We call on Congressman Suntay to take full accountability for his remarks, issue a proper apology, and conduct himself with the dignity that his office—and our city—demand. Our people deserve no less," the mayor said. 

Amid the controversy brought by Suntay's remarks, Anne got caught up in the tensions in the Middle East. Her flight from Italy to Dubai was rerouted due to airstrikes launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.

Anne just landed in Oman yesterday, as per Carmen, and safely reunited with her husband, Erwan Heussaff, and their daughter, Dahlia. —Carby Rose Basina/JCB, GMA Integrated News
