Gabbi Garcia, Atom Araullo, Amy Perez, more personalities call out Bong Suntay's remark about Anne Curtis
Gabbi Garcia, Atom Araullo, Amy Perez, and more personalities have spoken out following the controversy surrounding Rep. Bong Suntay's comments about Anne Curtis during a House committee hearing.
On Tuesday, members of the House committee on justice called out Suntay for his remarks during the proceedings on the pending impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
"Alam n'yo, minsan, minsan nasa Shangri-La ako. Nakita ko si Anne Curtis. Ang ganda-ganda pala niya. You know, may desire sa loob ko na nag-init talaga, na-imagine ko na lang kung ano'ng puwedeng mangyari, pero siyempre hanggang imagination na lang 'yon. Pero 'di naman siguro ako puwedeng kasuhan kung ano ang na-imagine ko eh," Suntay said.
The remarks drew widespread criticism for being inappropriate and objectifying.
Several celebrities and other public figures took to social media to condemn the public official and call for accountability.
Gabbi Garcia
Gabbi Garcia took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice her disapproval.
"If you hold power, act like it. Objectifying women, even in passing remarks is unacceptable. We are not here to be reduced to someone's imagination. Nakakadiri," the Sparkle star said.

Atom Araullo
Atom Araullo shared his thoughts on Facebook, emphasizing accountability in public office.
"If the honorable congressman thinks those remarks belong in the halls of Congress, one can only imagine what passes for normal conversation in private, especially when women aren't in the room," the award-winning broadcast journalist said.
"What followed was even worse: intellectual dishonesty and refusal to engage with criticism. The familiar playbook of strongman politics that seems to be spreading everywhere these days."
Amy Perez
Amy Perez, Anne's fellow "It's Showtime" host, expressed disappointment and condemned the remarks in a series of posts on X.
"I'm so disappointed Mr. Representative," she wrote. "Disgusting talaga!"
She also reminded the public about the broader issue of misogyny.
"Baka 'di n'yo alam o nabasa pa…. Misogynistic comments are verbal, written, or digital expressions of hatred, contempt, or prejudice against women, often demeaning them through stereotypes, sexual objectification, or insults," she said.
Amy also stressed the importance of respect and accountability.
"Basic respect for women involves recognizing their inherent dignity, equality, and agency as human beings, not just polite courtesy. It requires active listening, valuing their opinions, ensuring their safety from objectification or harassment," she wrote with the hashtag #womensmonth.

Winwyn Marquez
Winwyn Marquez slammed Suntay on Instagram Stories.
"When a public official makes a bastos or offensive analogy.. The right response is accountability, not blaming the public for noticing it po. Sana nag isip ka ng ibang analogy na hindi bastos," she said.
Therese Malvar
Therese Malvar also aired her disgust on Instagram.
"Nakakadiri ka," she wrote.
More celebs react
More celebrities expressed their shock and disapproval in the comments section of an Instagram reel showing the clip of Suntay's remarks.
Gary Valenciano, Abi Marquez, Matet De Leon, Nadine Lustre, Bianca Gonzalez, Bela Padilla, and Ivana Alawi, were among those who shared their reactions.
"Please let us not normalize this behavior. Disgusting, especially for a public servant," Bianca said.
"May mga nakangiti at natatawa tawa pa. Kadiri," Nadine said.
"Hindi nga naman siguro pwedeng kasuhan 'yung imagination…pero pwede natin tandaan 'tong video na 'to for future reference," Bela said.
Anne's family reacts
Anne's sister, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and their mother, Carmen, also slammed Suntay for his statement.
"Mr. Bong Suntay [you are a] sick man, I reckon! [You're] foul!" Carmen wrote on Facebook.
Jasmine, meanwhile, said the issue goes beyond "one female celebrity," stressing that it reflects how all women are continuously "reduced to bodies in spaces dominated by men in power."
Suntay issues apology
On Wednesday, Suntay apologized to Anne and those who were offended by his remarks.
"While may mga tao siguro that found the analogy in bad taste, doon sa mga na-offend, tayo'y, inuulit ko, walang malice doon sa ninais nating gawin doon sa statement na iyon. Ayaw natin makasakit through that analogy. But kung may nasaktan, humihingi tayo ng dispensa. Kay Ms. Anne Curtis din, kung nasaktan siya sa sinabi, uulitin ko, there was no malice intended at tayo humihingi ng dispensa sa kanya. —MGP, GMA Integrated News
