Olivia Rodrigo showcases Filipino roots by cooking lumpia, teases new album
Olivia Rodrigo brought a taste of the Philippines to Vogue's kitchen!
In her new video interview, the Grammy-winning Filipino-American pop star showcased her Filipino roots by whipped up a batch of lumpia while mixing a citrusy Paloma.
“Lumpia, to someone who's never had lumpia before, they're really delicious and savory and, like, kind of greasy in the best way. I don't know, it's just like feel-good food. My grandma used to make them for Thanksgiving every year, and so that was probably my first introduction to lumpia,” Olivia said.
The “Drivers License” hitmaker prepared a chicken filling with carrots, onion, garlic, pepper, salt, parsley, sesame oil, cilantro, and egg before wrapping and frying the rolls until golden.
Alongside the dish, the 22-year-old singer made a Paloma cocktail with a splash of calamansi.
“These are Filipino fruits. They’re these delicious little sour kind of orange things. They’re really delicious,” Olivia said.
Beyond the kitchen, Olivia also offered a glimpse into her upcoming album, which will mark a shift in tone.
“I feel like the album is very varied. I really wanted to figure out a way to kind of write about joy in this album. I feel like my last two albums are very rightfully so, kind of angsty and heartbroken, and just as a creative endeavor and also ‘cause I was experiencing a lot of joy in my life. I wanted to figure out how to, like, inject that into the songs that I was making,” she said.
Olivia has been teasing her third album in the past few days. Her official fan account has been using the hashtags #OliviaIsComing and #OR3.
In Los Angeles, a wall has been repeatedly transformed over the past week, generating buzz among fans. It began painted with Olivia’s signature purple shade and a seemingly new logo, hinting at the upcoming album.
Over the following days, the wall has been repainted multiple times, gradually shifting to a lighter hue, and as of this writing, it stands in a soft pink.
Fans have also noticed that her official website mirrors this evolving color scheme, matching the wall outside and keeping the excitement alive.
Olivia’s 2024 visit to the Philippines for her “Guts” show at the Philippine Arena was also her first time in the country.
During the sold-out concert, Olivia proudly showed off her Filipino blood—thanking her kababayans, wearing a “Miss So Filipina” sash, writing “Pinoy Pride” on her statement tee, and more.
