Repertory Philippines holds 2-day acting workshop for Sparkle stars

Sparkle stars got a special masterclass in acting as Repertory Philippines visited GMA Network for a two-day workshop designed to sharpen their craft.

The sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday were split by age group, with kids attending the morning workshops and teens joining in the afternoons.

Coach Cara Barredo of Repertory Philippines shared that the main goal of the workshops is to instill authenticity in every performance.

“The main one is to always find truth in the stories that they're telling, in the characters that they're portraying, and in everything they do. So even if they sing, it has to come from a place of truth all the time,” she said.

She also praised the young talents for their natural instincts.

“We are very, very surprised ‘cause they're all so naturally instinctive. I don't think I ever had to correct their acting because they were never pretending," she said.

"It was always coming from an area of truth, which made my goal easier kasi naturally they're thinking actors, they're creating actors, and they weren't afraid to try and make mistakes and explore. So it's really a good way to start their careers."

For the students, the workshop was both fun and enlightening.

“It was very fun. The method they use to teach is very exciting and interesting. They really explain it well and it's really open to use your imagination,” Geo Mhanna said.

“They're teaching us to be more aware of your surroundings, more aware of your actions, your reactions to things, your surroundings, your blockings,” he added.

Raphael Landicho also shared the lessons he learned from the sessions.

“Focus and vocal projections and being observant talaga. Lalo na ‘yung mga tinuro ni Miss Cara is talagang ma-a-apply ko po ‘yun sa mga soon na projects for my career,” he said.

Repertory Philippines is a prestigious theater company founded in 1967 that produces high-quality English-language plays and musicals. It serves as a leading training ground for actors and aims to make theater a vital part of Filipino culture.
