Elmo Magalona clarifies past with Julie Anne San Jose, denies romantic relationship
Elmo Magalona has set the record straight about his past with his former onscreen partner, Julie Anne San Jose
During his guesting on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” on Friday with his brother, Arkin, the singer-rapper denied that they were ever romantically involved despite their popular onscreen pairing.
Elmo explained that their closeness stemmed from a strong friendship and shared career goals rather than a real-life relationship.
“No. We were very good friends. We were very good friends that we wanted to help each other, bring our careers up at that time,” he said.
As a once-beloved love team, fans can’t help but speculate about the true status of their relationship. However, Elmo clarified that they never pretended to be a couple.
“Hindi naman. But there were times na ‘yung mga nagsusuporta sa amin, they would think na kami. Parang ganoon ‘yung talagang nakikita nila during the time na we were having love team performances, but we were really good friends,” he shared.
When asked whether there had ever been an attempt to court Julie Anne, Elmo said there was none, emphasizing that they were both focused on their careers at the time.
“Not really. We both have the same vision. I really admire her work ethic—sobrang sipag, sobrang responsible. She’s a very talented woman. I think we were just really too young to really give what the supporters wanted,” he shared.
“We were really doing it because we both enjoyed performing, pero it just got to a point where people are looking for something more,” he added.
Although they are no longer in regular contact, Elmo revealed that he and Julie Anne recently crossed paths at an event and exchanged brief greetings.
He also remains open to working with Julie Anne again in the future.
“Yeah, we could see something like that to happen,” he said.
Julie Anne and Elmo, known as the "JuliElmo" tandem, starred in various Kapuso projects, most notably in the 2012 romance-drama film “Just One Summer.”
Their projects included television performances on “Party Pilipinas,” the musical “Blue Jeans,” the short film “Red Mask Trilogy," and more.
