Angie Mead King marks 10th year of coming out as transgender: 'Grateful for my rebirth'
Angie Mead King marked 10 years since coming out as transgender.
Following Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31, the car enthusiast took to Instagram to share her transition story.
“It’s been 10 years since my coming out and I am more than grateful for my rebirth," she wrote.
Angie likened her life before transitioning to “having two operating systems,” like Android OS vs. Mac OS.
"It was truly confusing and mentally draining on what program was going to run in my brain,” she said.
She added that revisiting her old photos revealed her past uncertainties.
“From my older photos I can see lots of my half smiles and unsureness," she wrote.
"That all went away when I came out and I had the love and support of my friends, family, work and all of you who follow me today," she added.
Angie said she now feels more secure and capable, thanks to the support she received throughout her journey, especially from her wife, Joey Mead King. They got married in 2011.
"Today I have clarity and I always feel like I have the ability to do almost anything I put my heart to," she said.
She then encouraged others experiencing similar struggles to seek help.
"If you’re experiencing gender or body dysmorphia please talk to a professional as being heard will help clear your journey," she said. "And remember it’s never too late to start.”
Angie came out as transgender in July 2016.
Transgender Day of Visibility is observed annually on March 31.
