Who gave Jamie Rivera the 'Inspirational Diva' moniker?
Jamie Rivera is widely known as the “Inspirational Diva,” a moniker that reflects her heartfelt and uplifting songs.
In an interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” Wednesday, Jamie shared how the title came to be, saying it was writer Ron Romulo who gave her the moniker after she performed her hit song “Heal Our Land” during People Power Revolution II in 2001.
“By singing that, ‘Heal our Land,’ Ron Romulo gave me the title the Inspirational Diva,” Jamie recalled.
It was only natural as the singer pivoted to inspirational music much earlier.
Jamie was a popular singer in the '90s, known for the pop songs "I've Fallen For You" and "Hey, It's Me" before dipping her toes in theater and getting cast as Kim at the West End production of the hit Broadway Musical “Miss Saigon.”
In 2000, she was invited by her brother to sing for what she initially thought was a simple birthday celebration for Jesus.
“My brother asked me if I want to sing the birthday of Jesus so I thought it was just a happy birthday,” Jamie recalled.
“But it turns out it’s the Jubilee song. It’s the Jubilee 2000, the Great Jubilee. That’s the 2000th birthday of Jesus Christ,” she said.
Jamie went on to record the Jubilee Song composed by Fr. Carlo Magno-Marcelo—a milestone she considers the beginning of her path as an inspirational artist.
“That started it all,” Jamie said.
After "Heal Our Land," she was asked to sing the song "Only Selfless Love" for the 4th World Meeting of Families in 2003.
Most recently, she gained recognition for performing “We Are All God’s Children,” the official theme song of Pope Francis’ 2015 Papal Visit. — Jade Veronique Yap/LA, GMA News
