Thea Astley reveals suffering head injury before solo show
Thea Astley revealed that she was rushed to the emergency room just hours before her first solo show after a bathroom accident left her with a head injury.
On Facebook, the singer recounted how she slipped on the bathroom floor in the early hours of March 27 and hit her head on the sink.
“I woke up and the floor was bloody and I could feel what I assumed was blood trickling down my face,” she said, adding that she had been unconscious for “a little less than a minute,” based on her sister’s account.
She was immediately taken to the ER, where tests came back normal, but doctors treated a laceration on her forehead with stitches. Though advised to stay for observation, Thea opted to go home.
The incident also led to a last-minute change in her appearance during her show.
“So if you’re wondering about the bangs, that was not a premeditated creative decision,” she shared. “The doctor had to shave a patch for the stitches so we improvised.”
Despite the ordeal, Thea pushed through with her scheduled performance, “Unwrapped with Thea Astley,” held later that day at Brewing Point Fisher Parkway in Quezon City.
“Admittedly, I wasn’t at my 100% but I still showed up and I gave what I could,” she said, thanking her team for making adjustments to ensure her comfort.
The experience, she added, underscored the importance of healthcare access, noting how her HMO helped cover the costs of the emergency visit.
“Accidents like this can happen to anyone at any time,” Thea said. “I’m just grateful to be OK.”
Thea was the first runner-up of “The Clash” Season 2.
In 2024, Thea received the Best Performance in a Musical Award at BroadwayWorld Philippines Awards.
