Yasser Marta honored to play Jesus Christ in senakulo
Yasser Marta is feeling fulfilled after playing Jesus Christ for the first time in a senakulo in Pampanga.
On Instagram, the Kapuso actor shared photos of his portrayal, including scenes of the carrying of the cross and the Virgin Mary crying over Jesus’ death.
“Honored to tell His story. Maraming salamat po,” Yasser said in his caption.
Previously, Yasser, who is Muslim, told Nelson Canlas that portraying Jesus Christ is all about doing the work.
He studied the material, including watching “The Passion of the Christ,” and took the time to understand how the role should be performed.
Yasser also understood what the role means to people, and described himself as a vessel to carry a sacred story.
Yasser recently bagged the Best Supporting Actor at the 8th Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival for his role in the indie film “Desperada,” directed by Louie Ignacio.
He has previously appeared in the Kapuso shows “Lolong: Pangil ng Maynila,” “My Ilonggo Girl,” "Lovers & Liars," and “Forever Young,” among others.
He also recently portrayed a detainee in an episode of “Magpakailanman.”
