Miguel Tanfelix makes solo hosting debut in ‘Planet XP’

Miguel Tanfelix is set to take on a new challenge: his first solo hosting in the upcoming GMA magazine infotainment special “Planet XP.”

Inspired by the gaming term “XP” or Experience Points, “Planet XP” aims to take viewers on immersive journeys across the Philippines, highlighting not only breathtaking destinations but also the country’s rich culture and diverse communities.

In an interview with GMA News Online, Miguel said the unique concept of “Planet XP” convinced him to take on the project.

“Number one is the concept. Dalawang malapit sa puso ko yan. Number one is gaming, number two is travel,” Miguel said.

He explained that the show combines two of his passions—gaming and travel—with “XP” or experience points serving as a central theme, where he gains real-life lessons, knowledge, and stories through various missions.

“Ang main objective ko sa show ay maka-gain ng real life experience points. So through missions namin sa buong episode may magiging experiences, knowledge, and mga kwento na pwede kong gamitin in real life. Kailangan natin mag-gain ng real life experience points,” Miguel added.

He also highlighted that the travel aspect is especially close to his heart, as he enjoys exploring on his own. The immersive nature of the program, with activities like hiking, swimming, and sailing, led him to say yes immediately to hosting the show.

“Eh 'yung second naman is about siya sa travel, sobrang close to my heart kasi may mahilig ako mag-travel alone, backpacking. So noong sinabi sa akin na mayroon ako, makakaroon ako ng travel show, immersive pa. So kailangan ko mag-hike, kailangan ko mag-lumangoy, kailangan ko mag-barko, lahat.  Tinanggap ko kaagad siya. So feeling ko 'yun 'yung nagpa-yes sa akin sa show,” he said.

Miguel's upcoming adventures will include mountain climbing, hiking, and even windsurfing.

In the process, he will showcase both the beauty of nature and the stories of the people who call these places home. The program will feature his meaningful encounters with various communities, including the Dumagat of Norzagaray, Bulacan; the Women Weavers of Cavinti, Laguna; the Ayta-Mag-Indi farmers of Floridablanca, Pampanga; the Mighty Mountaineers of San Jose, Tarlac; and grassroots windsurfers in Mabini, Batangas.

Produced through a partnership between GMA Network and the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT), the five-part program will premiere on May 2, airing every Saturday at 6:30 p.m on GMA Network. —JCB, GMA News
