Sue Prado, an acclaimed indie film actress, has passed away at 44 years old.

Known for her work in both independent cinema and television, she built a steady career as a character actress, recognized for her performances across film and TV projects.

Here is what you need to know about Sue.

1. An actress in film, TV, and theater

According to her profile on Aktor PH’s website, Sue was a Filipino actress best known for her performances in Philippine New Wave films, including the 2013 movies “Oro” and “Barber’s Tales,” among other roles in Philippine film, television, and theater.

She was part of GMA shows like 2022's "Bolera," 2025's "Princesa ng City Jail," and "Abot Kamay na Pangarap" and was credited in movies like "Balota," “Kantil,” “Your Mother’s Son,” and “Manila Skies,” and more.

2. Award-winning actress

Sue received recognition from several local and international film festivals throughout her career.

Her accolades include Best New Lead Actress at the 7th Urduja Film Festival for “AlmaAta,” Best Actress at the 5th Urduja Film Festival for “Caramel Child,” and Achievement in Acting at the Guam International Film Festival for “The Sister.”

Sue was named Best Supporting Actress at the 2010 Gawad Urian Awards for “Himpapawid (Manila Skies),” and received additional nominations, including at the ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards in 2017 for “Area.”

3. Academic background

Sue graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Arts, majoring in Theatre, from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, according to her jury profile at the 22nd Pune International Film Festival in India.

She also served as a juror at several international film festivals, including the Sharm El-Sheikh International Film Festival in Egypt and the Orenburg International Film Festival in Russia, both in 2019. In 2024, she was part of the official competition jury at the 22nd Pune International Film Festival.

4. A ‘crazy cat lady’

Outside of acting, Sue would often share her affection for cats on Instagram.

Her feed features numerous posts of her spending time with her pets, from cuddling and kissing them to simply relaxing with them at home.

Her first post in 2016 featured her cat Grohl, and she even once posted a photo of a mug labeled “Crazy Cat Lady,” with her two cats in the background, captioned “Redundancy.”

 

 

5. Sports: Swimming, volleyball, basketball

Sue lived quite the full life. She had an interest in sports and fitness, including swimming, volleyball, and basketball.

In one Instagram post showing her swimming laps in a pool, she wrote “Happy gills again,” alongside clips of her training and returning to swimming.
