GMA Kapuso Foundation sends aid to residents of Guinobatan, Albay

The GMA Kapuso Foundation sent aid to residents of Guinobatan in Albay affected by the recent ashfall from the Mayon Volcano.

According Mel Tiangco’s report in “24 Oras” on Friday, the residents have been suffering from the intense heat on top of the volcanic activity.

“Nagtanim ako ng kalabasa noong February, para sa nasa pasukan, may-aanihin kami,” said resident May Sacantito.

Her husband Martin’s cattle have also been growing weak, as the grass they feed on have been covered by thick ash.

According to the latest data from the Municipal Agriculture Office of Guinobatan, the damage caused by the eruption of Mayon Volcano to the province's agriculture has reached P53.8 million.

“Rice, the corn, the high value coconut and other crops na may damage area po na 2,119 hectares na po ngayon. Tapos po yung damage affected farmers ay nasa 3,170 na po sila,” Guinobatan Municipal Agriculturist Grace Teano said.

To aid in this problem, the Kapuso Foundation delivered relief goods, KN95 masks, bread, and water for 4,000 individuals in collaboration with the Universal Guardians Brotherhood Bicol.

They also distributed detergents and disinfectants to schools in the area and also provided dog food and pet soap to TAARA, an animal shelter in Tabaco City that houses approximately 280 dogs and cats, including rescued stray animals.

“It breaks our hearts to see the streets na covered po ng abo. We are very thankful po na may donation po kaming natanggap,” TAARA volunteer Fiel Lopez said.
