Anton Vinzon says 'Kamao' is a tribute to his dad Roi Vinzon
Anton Vinzon is over the moon that his first leading role, “Kamao,” is premiering soon and already receiving so much support.
The Sparkle star is working with a mix of rising and veteran actors, including his father, action star Roi Vinzon, in the upcoming Kapuso sports drama series.
In an interview with GMA News Online following the series’ media conference on Monday, Anton said that “Kamao” is his tribute to Roi.
“Gusto ko talaga siyang maging proud sa pilot and talagang first time ko ‘tong lead show, sana magustuhan niya,” Anton said.
According to Anton, Roi has not seen the pilot episode yet, and he hopes they will watch it together.
“’’Nak, good job.’ Gusto ko marinig sa kanya ‘yun,” Anton said. “Tribute ko po talaga kay papa ‘to kasi siya po talaga ‘yung superhero ko and talagang he’s my best friend.”
Anton also shared his experience working with his dad for the first time.
“First day pa lang, pressure na,” Anton said, adding that Roi became a stage father. “Talagang nandiyan siya para sa ‘kin. Inaalalay niya ‘ko, ganun po talaga. Todo support sa ‘kin.”
Although Anton said he does not receive any acting advice from his dad, he learns other lessons, such as cherishing his character and being respectful to other people.
“Naging totoo ako sa sarili ko and mas naging matapang ako sa mga binigay niya sa ‘kin,” he said.
Anton is also grateful to his father for not spoonfeeding him.
“Sabi niya, ‘Hindi na kita tutulungan. Dapat ‘yung mga taong tumutulong sa ‘yo, ‘yung mga direktor, dapat talaga ma-experience mo lahat.’”
Per Anton, he is “overwhelmed” with all the support for “Kamao” so far, and he feels “really grateful and blessed.”
“Dream come true. ‘Yung sinabi ko nga kanina, ‘Papa, natupad ko na ‘yung pangarap ko,'" he said.
“Kamao” premieres on May 25 at 3:20 p.m. on GMA Afternoon Prime. —CDC, GMA News
