Glaiza De Castro's Reynafe seeks justice for late father in '58th' trailer
GMA Public Affairs and GMA Pictures’ animated documentary film “58th” just released its official trailer!
The trailer opens with Reynafe, voiced by Glaiza De Castro, calling her father, photojournalist Reynaldo “Bebot” Momay (Ricky Davao), after learning about the deadly clash between two political clans in Maguindanao.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Reynafe and the families of the other victims rush to the massacre site to claim their loved ones’ remains. While 57 bodies are recovered and identified, Reynaldo’s is never found.
The trailer shows a glimpse of the family's decades-long search for answers, with Reynafe recalling the painful moment when retrieval operations stopped after the 57th body was exhumed.
With her father's body never recovered, Reynafe continues her long fight for answers and for his recognition as the tragedy's 58th victim.
Directed by Carl Joseph Papa, "58th" retells the Maguindanao massacre for a new generation, ensuring the victims’ stories are not forgotten. It was screened at the 2026 International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands in January.
The Maguindanao massacre happened on November 23, 2009, in the town of Ampatuan and is considered the deadliest single attack on journalists in world history. The massacre resulted in the death of 58 individuals, 32 of whom were journalists, including Bebot.
While his body was never found, Bebot is considered the 58th victim of the massacre. A court ruling in 2019 saw the acquittal of all the accused over Bebot's death due to reasonable doubt, as well as the dismissal of his family's claim for damages. —Jade Veronique Yap/JCB, GMA News
