'58th' to premiere in Colombia human rights film festival

GMA Public Affairs and GMA Pictures’ animated documentary "58th" is off to Colombia!

On social media, GMA Pictures announced the documentary has been selected for the International Feature-Length Documentary Competition of the International Film Festival for Human Rights in Colombia (FICDEH).

The selection marks another international milestone for the documentary; FICDEH is among Latin America's most prominent film festivals dedicated to human rights, memory, justice, and social change.

“FICDEH showcases exceptional stories that demonstrate how defending life, peace and dignity can be one of cinema’s most powerful acts. Through its films, the festival reaffirms cinema as a powerful tool for social transformation,” GMA Pictures said.

This year's FICDEH will run from Aug. 12-19 across 11 cities and 31 municipalities in Colombia.

Starring Glaiza De Castro, "58th" follows the story of Reynafe (Glaiza) as she continues her years-long fight for answers and her father's recognition as the 58th victim of the Maguindanao massacre. Her story also reflects the grief of the victims' families and their pursuit of justice following the tragedy.

The Maguindanao massacre happened on November 23, 2009, in the town of Ampatuan. It is considered the deadliest single attack on journalists in world history. The massacre resulted in the death of 58 individuals, 32 of whom were journalists.

It previously won at the 2026 edition of Doc Edge Festival, New Zealand’s premier documentary festival and an Academy Awards-qualifying event.

“58th” was also screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026 in France last April and made it to the Top 10 Audience Choice Films at the 2026 International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

It will make its Philippine premiere at the 2026 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival on August 13.
