Maui Taylor opens up on challenges of finding love as a sexy star

Maui Taylor opened up on the difficulties of finding a partner and maintaining a relationship as a sexy star.

During her guest appearance in "Your Honor," Maui revealed that she was once judged by the parents of someone she dated during the height of her career.

"Ako I experienced I think which I would call the worst ever experience in terms of meeting parents. This was 2005. Ni-launch ako ko noong 2002. So peak. Super peak pa talaga. Bagong-bago pa," she recalled.

"Sinabihan talaga ako nung parents na I'm a porn star daw," she added.

According to Maui, she was caught off guard by the remark.

"So s'yempre taas kilay ako ' ba. Parang ah talaga po OK? I'm a porn star ah. OK sige. Kaya pala no um kaya pala sabi ko one 'yung school ko pareho kami ng school ng anak mo 'di ba? Kaya pala um well respected ako sa eskwelahan 'no kasi pornstar ako,"

Despite attending school during the peak of her sexy star career, Maui said she never experienced discrimination from her classmates. However, she acknowledged that some schools, particularly Catholic institutions, may not be supportive of artists known for doing sexy roles.

"Tsaka ito I'll be honest with you ha. OK fine. Nagpa-sexy ako pero never mo ako makikita sa labas na naka plunging. Noong the whole time that I was studying during the time ng kasikatan ko. Noong peak ko I was in college eh never ako nakita ng mga kaklase kong pumasok na naka-plunging," Maui recalled.

"Palagi akong naka-polo, naka-long sleeve, balot. Hindi ko pinapakita 'yung cleavage ko kasi ang point ko diyan is OK fine that's my image on screen but that's not who I am in person. So bakit kailangan itulad 'yung image ko sa screen sa nakikita n'yo in person?" she said.

The former actress also admitted that being known as a sexy star made it difficult to determine people's true intentions in relationships. She said many men she encountered were only interested in pursuing her because of her image.

"Madami ka talagang mami-meet na they just want to get in your pants," she said. "Hanggang ngayon, ang dami."

"So alam mo 'yun parang ikaw being the grownup woman, older woman that you are alam mo na 'yun kung 'yun lang talaga 'yung hinahabol sa 'yo," she said.

Maui said that the sexy image she portrayed on screen was simply part of her job and should not define her character in real life.

"May difference 'yan, kumbaga for me trabaho lang 'yan professional ako so hindi ako 'yan. So wrong judgment of character na kapag sinabing sexy ganyan-ganyan," she said. "Hindi n'yo naman kilala kung sino 'yung sinasabihan n'yo ng ganyan e."

Drawing from her own experience, the actress said she now advises younger performers to maintain a clear distinction between their on-screen persona and their off-camera selves.

"Make it different. Make yourself classy, balot kung paano ka how you carry yourself in public. Huwag 'yung alam mo na 'yun ha," she said.

As a famous sexy star in the 2000s, Maui starred in numerous erotic and sexy films such as "Tatarin," "Sex Drive," and "Ang Huling Anghel sa Lupa" among others. —Jade Veronique Yap/MGP, GMA News
