Celebrities took to social media to share their experiences as the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, brought heavy rains and caused flooding, traffic disruptions, and other challenges in Metro Manila and several provinces.

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Metro Manila recorded 201.7 millimeters of rainfall in just five hours on Monday, nearly half of the 455 millimeters of rain brought by Tropical Storm Ondoy in 24 hours in 2009.

Here are some of the celebrities who shared glimpses of their experiences amid the inclement weather.

Vince Maristela

Vince Maristela documented his journey through flooded areas amid heavy rains.

In the video, he said in Filipino, “We’re walking now because it’s faster to walk than to ride in a car."

The video showed heavy traffic, with some motorists unable to pass through flooded roads. Vince also showed himself walking through floodwaters, and highlighted our sidewalks' state of disrepair before eventually reaching his destination.

He later joined other commuters riding at the back of a fire truck to get through more flooded areas.

Pokwang

Pokwang also documented her journey to the Cinemalaya Awards Night, where she later shared the Best Actress trophy with Ruby Ruiz.

“We’ve been on the road for three hours! Will I make it to the Cinemalaya Awards Night?” She wrote in a video, while another clip showed their vehicle passing through flooded roads.

(3 hrs na kami sa daan! Aabot kaya ako sa awards night ng Cinemalaya?)

Betong

Betong shared clips of his Monday commute to work, including footage of Quezon Avenue covered in floodwaters.

He eventually took the MRT and was able to reach work safely.

Jon Lucas

Jon Lucas shared a video showing heavy traffic amid the rain and wrote in a mix of English and Filipino, “Can’t be mad! I know there are more people outside who are also having a hard time."

He also expressed concern for others who were affected by the weather.

“Praying for your safety, guys! Many were late, some didn’t make it to where they were going, and many important events were canceled, but once you make it home safely, that’s what matters most today, okay?” he said.

MacMac Cardona

Former PBA and MPBL player MacMac Cardona drew attention after he posted a video of himself diving into floodwaters in Quezon City “for content only.” He later deleted the video and apologized, jokingly referencing former Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin.

“I’m so sorry, Coach Tab! I shouldn’t have joked about that,” he wrote.

(I’m so sorry coach tab! Dapat hindi ako nag bibiro ng ganun.)
