Jackie Lou Blanco: Reluctant witch

She plays Iwa Moto’s evil mom in the Dramarama hit, Magdusa Ka. But in reality, Jackie Lou Blanco is one cool and soft-hearted mommy. Read iGMA's exclusive chat with her while on the set of their successful show. Jackie Lou Blanco is happy with the overwhelming response of the audience for Magdusa Ka but she admits that playing a bad-ass momma is a role that she has not gotten used to. She may be a veteran actress. She may have an impressive resume, having done movies such as Hihintayin Kita sa Langit (1991), Isusumbong Kita sa Diyos (1988), and Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat sa Akin (1987). But she still finds portraying an evil role a tricky task. She shares, “if you’re bad, you’re bad ‘di ba? So sometimes it is difficult for me kasi it’s so far from my [real] character eh." Jackie is first and foremost a mom and she admits that this title makes her a “softie". She can not help herself from showing that side even when the cameras are rolling. She welcomes the challenge though. She rarely accepts a project and when she does she makes sure it is worth her time. “Sometimes it’s difficult for me kasi lumalabas yung soft side ko, ‘yung ganoon. Direk always says to me, ‘Jack, lumalabas ‘yung pagkamommy mo’. Usually sa soaps para bang gusto nila black or white ‘di ba?" She continues, “but that makes it challenging and that kinda reminds me na I really have to focus. Pero ‘yun, mahirap siya saka nakakapagod to always be mad or to always be screaming, it’s kinda tiring after a while." In Magdusa Ka, she reprises a role played by Liza Lorena in the original film while Ms. Liza plays the character of Armida Siguion-Reyna for the Sinenovela version, the more veteran generation paving the way for the next. Jackie Lou is Olivia Doliente, the haughty mother of Millet Calpito portrayed by Iwa Moto. TV Mommy It is obvious that if there is one thing Jackie truly and heartily enjoys about her role and that is her close relationship with onscreen daughter, Iwa. “She calls me nga mama eh. Ano, para ko na rin ko siyang anak. Kasi I have a son who’s almost her age," Jackie answers when asked what it is like to work with Iwa. “It’s so easy to get along with Iwa because, if you look at her, she’s so womanly, very sexy, pero para siyang bata, para siyang baby. She likes to make kuwento. She’s very malambing. She’ll call me, ‘halika na ‘nay kakain na tayo.’ ‘Iyung ganoon. And I like, I like that about her. She’s very natural, no pretentions." Jackie adds that for a newcomer, Iwa is very professional and knows the value of hard work. She is very proud that her reel daughter is creating waves with her come-hither acting style. The veteran admits that compared to her generation, it seems that Katrina Halili and Iwa’s generation are geared towards career and perfecting their craft, even though they are still quite young. This proves that no matter what generation one is from, it is talent and hard work that makes an actress stay in showbiz. And Jackie Lou Blanco is the perfect specimen. - iGMA.tv
