Kim Chiu's lawyer says filing of qualified theft complaint 'not a personal matter' between actress, sister

Kim Chiu’s legal counsel said that the filing of a qualified theft complaint against her sister was not a "personal matter" between the sisters, as it involved corporate funds of a company in which Kim is a shareholder.

In a statement reported by Emil Sumangil on “24 Oras” on Monday, the lawyer of Kim and The House of LittleBunny Philippines, Inc (HOLB), Atty. Margrein Archernar M. Gregana, clarified that the charges against Lakambini "involve corporate funds that were unlawfully taken."

"To be clear, these actions were taken strictly by HOLB, in which Ms. Kim Chiu is a shareholder, to recover the company's missing funds and ensure accountability among those involved," said Gregana.

Per the statement, the current complaint against Lakambini covers only a portion of 2025 and does not include other years of oversight.

“The corporation is duty-bound to act to prevent further financial losses,” said Gregana.

He added that Kim's sister, her representatives, or her legal counsel had not reached out to HOLB's officers, its legal counsel, or Kim.

"Statements circulating to the country on social media are inaccurate. HOLB and Ms. Kim Chiu remain fully committed to pursuing complete accountability and recovery through the proper legal channels, and we defer to the wisdom of the courts."

Kim's sister was arrested Sunday afternoon in Mandaluyong City on an arrest warrant for 124 counts of qualified theft.

Kamuning Police Station 10 Commander PLTCOL. Aljun Belista said in the "24 Oras" report on Monday that Lakambini was detained in the custodian facility of the station with a pending commitment order from the court.

The report also aired a statement from Lakambini’s legal counsel, Atty. Dominic Solis, dated September 17.

“Our client is saddened by her sister’s decision to pursue the case but remains hopeful that the matter can still be resolved amicably within the family. She will address the charges through the proper legal process,” said Solis.

In December 2025, the “It’s Showtime” host filed a qualified theft complaint against Lakambini after discovering “serious financial discrepancies” amounting to P44 million in her business.

"Unfortunately, substantial amounts connected to my business assets were found missing.
