Alfred Vargas mom confirms actor’s desire to run in 2010 polls

The mother of Alfred Vargas disclosed on Tuesday her actor-son's plans to run for councilor oin Quezon City in the 2010 elections under the administration party. During a press briefing in Malacañang, Susana Vargas, deputy executive secretary for finance and administration, said her son will be joining the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD (Christian Muslim Democrats) soon. "He was invited to run for councilor in the second district... sa Quezon City... He'll be joining Lakas. He’ll be taking his oath soon," said Mrs. Vargas. She said she is not aware of what prompted her son to go into politics, but suggested that it could be his desire to render public service. She described her son as idealistic and principled. Mrs. Vargas said Alfred would be focusing on youth issues. Aside from Alfred, another showbiz personality, Ara Mina, was rumored to be eying one of the six council seats in Quezon City's second district. Alfred, Alfredo Paolo Dumlao Vargas III in real life, is an A.B. Management Economics graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University.
