Actor Richard Gutierrez on Wednesday posted a P30,000 bail to avoid arrest in connection with the homicide charges filed against him in connection with last May's road accident that killed his personal assistant. Gutierrez posted bail at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 216 after the Department of Justice (DOJ) recommended the filing of charges against him. The actor was accompanied by his mother Annabelle Rama and his legal counsels from the Bello Law firm. Last July 23, Lorayne Pardo filed reckless imprudence resulting to homicide against Gutierrez before the Cavite Provincial Prosecutor Office over the death of her husband, Nomar Pardo. Lorayne also filed a petition before the DOJ asking the agency to handle the homicide case. The DOJ said based on the complainant’s evidence, Gutierrez was over speeding during the time of the accident. Police and traffic reports on the road mishap were used as basis for the recommendation. The DOJ added that the actor “did not exercise proper prudence and slow down as he approached the curve way" on the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road. Gutierrez had earlier said that he exercised diligence while driving during that time. He also maintained that what happened was an accident for which he could not be faulted. "What happened in the morning of May 22 was an accident, one which took my friend's life and where I also could have died," Gutierrez said in an earlier statement. The actor had also publicly declared his intention to help Pardo's children by funding their education. This was however rejected by Pardo's widow. - GMANews.TV
