GMA-7 reveals lineup of upcoming teleseryes for 3Q 2010 and early 2011


During an intimate gathering at the 17th floor of GMA Network in Quezon City earlier Friday, October 22, executives of the Kapuso Network revealed details about upcoming shows for the last quarter of 2010 and the first two quarters of 2011. GMA SVP for Entertainment Wilma Galvante said that by the end of the year, they will offer viewers the chance to witness the highly anticipated Ogie Alcasid-Regine Velasquez wedding. She revealed that the "wedding of the year" will take place on December 22 at the Punta Fuego beach resort in Batangas. On December 26, the Kapuso Network will air the exclusive coverage of the "wedding-within-a-concert." According to Ms. Wilma, the wedding coverage is GMA-7's gift to the couple who have been loyal Kapuso stars for many years. Members of the press were curious to know about GMA-7's strategy to counter TV5's launch of Willie Revillame's new show Willing Willie. It is scheduled to air its pilot episode this Saturday, October 23. Despite the arrival of this new show, GMA-7 executives said that they will continue with their regular programming because they believe that their programs are strong enough to withstand the competition posed by the Kapatid Network. GMA-7's VP for Drama Lilybeth Rasonable then narrated to the editors and writers present during the press con some details about their upcoming shows. LAST QUARTER SALVO. For the last quarter of 2010, GMA-7 aired its first original Sinenovela offering, Kris Bernal's Koreana, and Iza Calzado's Beauty Queen. On October 25, the Kapuso Network will air the pilot episode of Little Star, which will be topbilled by Jennylyn Mercado, Lovi Poe, and Mark Anthony Fernandez. It will also introduce the Network's newest child star named Nicky Castro. This afternoon drama series directed by Maryo J. delos Reyes will also star Paolo Contis and Rich Asuncion. Inspired by the fairy tale Thumbelina, the Kapuso Network will present a its newest telefantasya titled Dwarfina. Heart Evangelista is cast as a young woman who is cursed to be no higher than six inches. She will fall in love with a mortal portrayed by Dennis Trillo and completing their love triangle will be former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Will Devaughn. Dwarfina will also star Lani Mercado, Jackie Lou Blanco, Mark Bautista, Emilio Garcia, and Pauleen Luna. FIRST QUARTER 2011. When members of the press asked if Claudine Barretto will have a new show, the GMA-7 executives pointed out, "Definitely may future siya. It will be a daily soap, pero sinusulat pa ang script." GMA-7 is slated to offer three new primetime shows next year. First, is the romantic-comedy I ♥ You Pare. Regine Velasquez and Dingdong Dantes let viewers take a peek into the flamboyant lifestyle of gays and drag queens. Captain Barbell will be seen once again on the Kapuso Network as Richard Gutierrez brings life once again to the dual characters Teng and his superhero alter ego. The Mars Ravelo classic is scheduled to air during the first quarter of 2011. This telefantasya will be different because Captain Barbell will be joined by a "league of superheroes" in battling villains. For the second quarter of 2011, GMA Drama will mount a historical fiction soap opera starring Marian Rivera. Titled Amaya, this epic series will span several centuries of Philippine history. Marian is cast as an extraordinary woman blessed with extraordinary powers, which she will use to lead her people at a time dominated by males. Ms. Rasonable revealed, "A lot of research was done. In fact, our consultants are from the research department of the University of the Philippines. The characters are fictional but they are situated in a historical situation." Viewers can also look forward to a weekly wakasan TV series. Every Monday, a new story will begin and the plot will end by Friday. This still untitled show will be aired sometime in January or February 2011. For weekend viewers, the Kapuso Network will air a horror anthology series that will focus on Philippine folklore. GMA-7 also aims to do the very first dance-serye titled Dance With Me. They were inspired to do this series because of the success of Regine Velasquez's kantaserye Diva.
